Playoff and Bowl Pool FAQ and Message Board

Options for extending your existing PICK'EM pool into the Playoffs and Bowls!

DIRECTIONS: Find the type of pool you are doing, Pro Only, College Only or College and Pro, and read about the options available for each setting page listed. If you don't find the solution you need, go ahead and leave a message on the message board at the bottom.

For PRO FOOTBALL POOLS

Use this page, POOL SETTINGS>Schedule (Weeks), to do this:

  • To continue into the playoffs and Superbowl, choose "2013 Superbowl" as your end week.
  • To separate the playoff results from the regular season results, also change the start week to "2013 Playoffs 1", but be sure to wait until the end of regular season!

Use this page, POOL SETTINGS>Format, to do this:

  • If you have a Best picks or Key Picks pool, you might need to adjust the "Pick Options" and/or "Key Picks" settings, respectively, for the playoffs to account for fewer games.
  • 1-11 Ranks: You can now assign each playoff game a rank of 1 (lowest) through 11 (highest) to any of the 11 playoff games even though they occur on different weeks. Once a rank is assigned to a game that rank is unavailable for the remainder of the playoffs.
  • To increase the number of picks available to each member (from 11 to 22), you can add over/unders. To do so, go to POOL ADMIN>Set Picksheet, and add the over/under picks.

To weight the games higher each week of the playoffs

Option 1 below is probably the easiest and best. The other options you can do yourself but these are more complicated and not really recommended anymore. For any of them, you will want to wait until after the regular season ends before making any adjustments to your settings.

  1. Weekly Multiplier (best option) - For Standard Pick'em, we can make each win worth 2 wins or 4 wins or whatever multiplier you want. You might want a 2x multiplier for the 1st week, 3x for the 2nd week, etc. Similarly, if you have a confidence pool, we do a points multiplier so each point is worth 2 points or 3 points or whatever. Just write us and we'll set you up. (contact the website for this option)

  2. Game by Game Weighting - For a Standard pick'em pool with no confidence points or key picks, do this: After the regular season ends and the playoff matchups are determined, go to POOL ADMIN>Set Picksheet, and give them the weighting you want (1-15 points per win). Then, change your tiebreakers to use Points as the main tiebreaker. Then, if you are combining your regular season with the playoffs, write the website (admin@officefootballpool.com) and ask us to fill in the point values for the regular season.

  3. Custom Ranks - For a Confidence pool, write the website and ask for custom confidence ranks. We can change your ranks every week. For example you might want ranks 4,3,2,1 in week 1 of the playoffs and then ranks 8,6,4,2 in week 2, etc. We can do that easily.

  4. Key Picks - For a Key Pick pool, change the Key Bonus (POOL SETTINGS>Format) and the number of Key Picks (4 max, or 8 max if you include over/under totals) to match the possible point total you want. For example, you might want 4 Key Picks with a Key Bonus of 1 in week 1, then 4 Key Picks with a Key bonus of 3 in week 2, etc. It should be obvious, but remember that you can't have more Key Picks than the number of games. So for the Superbowl you can only have 1 key pick, or 2 key picks if you are doing over/unders.

Use this page, POOL SETTINGS>Tiebreakers, to do this:
  • To use the Super Bowl Points (total points scored by both teams) as your only points prediction tiebreaker for your playoff pool, you want "MNF Points" as a Season tiebreaker but not a weekly one.

  • To change from a Wins based pool to a Points based pool, change your main tiebreaker to Points (and use Wins as Tiebreaker #1)

For COLLEGE FOOTBALL POOLS

Use this page, POOL SETTINGS>Schedule (Weeks), to do this:

  • To continue with the bowl games, choose "2013 College Bowls 3" as your end week.
  • To separate your bowl results from your regular season results, change the start week to "2013 College Bowls 1", but be sure to wait until the end of regular season!
  • To place the bowl games on a single pick sheet, check the option for "Do Bowl Games on 1 Picksheet."

Use this page, POOL ADMIN>Set Picksheet, to do this:

  • Select the games to be included on your pick sheet. You can also assign a point value to each Bowl game so that picking the winner of certain bowls— like the BCS Championship— is worth more than picking the winner of a lesser bowl.

Use this page, POOL SETTINGS>Format, to do this:

  • If you have a Best picks or Key Picks pool, you might need to adjust the "Pick Options" and/or "Key Picks" settings, respectively, for the playoffs to account for fewer games.
  • To increase the number of picks available to each member, you can add over/unders. To do so, go to POOL ADMIN>Set Picksheet

COLLEGE AND PRO FOOTBALL COMBINED

Use this page, POOL SETTINGS>Schedule (Weeks), to do this:

  • To continue into the post season, select your preferred end week.
  • To separate your bowl/playoff results from your regular season results, change the start week too, but be sure to wait until the end of regular season!
  • To place the bowl games on a single pick sheet, check the option for "Do Bowl Games on 1 Picksheet." Note that once you do this, the bowl games will be the last picksheet of your season, so if you want to continue to include pro games through the end of the NFL season, see below for further instructions.

Use this page, POOLS>Start a Pool, to do this:

  • To place the bowl games all on 1 pick sheet and continue doing NFL, you need to set up a new bowls only pool ($1 per person fee).
  • To combine your bowl pool results with your main pool results, send us a written request.

Use this page, POOL ADMIN>Set Picksheet, to do this:

  • Select the games to be included on your pick sheet.

Use this page, POOL SETTINGS>Format, to do this:

  • If you have best picks or key picks, you might need to adjust those settings to account for fewer games.
  • To increase the number of picks, you can add over/unders.
